Vacaville Lions Club gets to work in collecting eyeglasses for the needy
April 4, 2011
While many people may need eyeglasses in order to properly see, some individuals may not be able to afford them due to high costs. However, there are various organizations across the country that work to provide eyeglasses to those who are in financial straits.
The Lions Club works to collect eyeglasses for the needy and has been doing so for decades. The Vacaville Lions Club has teamed up with the Vacaville Teachers Association in order to host an eyeglass donation event, according to the Reporter.
Individuals will have the opportunity to donate eyeglasses from now until April 15 at various locations throughout the Vacaville, California, area.
"A gift of donated eyeglasses can change the lives of those in need. Seeing clearly for the first time means they can do basic things like succeed at school or work," said Barry Fredenburg, Lions Club president. "There's a huge demand globally for prescription and reading glasses and it's great to partner with the VTA to help solve this problem."
The American Optometric Association reports that eyeglasses can be used to treat myopia and hyperopia.
