Unique eye health tips from experts

Many individuals are aware of the importance of eye health, but there may be some less obvious habits that contribute to vision difficulties. In an article in the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune, eye experts weighed in on ways to protect one's eyes at work, at school and on a day-to-day basis.
"Healthy vision is critical to successfully completing job related tasks," Dr. Lisa Slaby, president of the Wisconsin Optometric Association (WOA), told the news source. "While most people think of construction or manufacturing as high-risk occupations where eye injuries are prevalent, even jobs requiring smartphones, laptops and desktop computers can cause vision problems if not used properly."
The WOA recommends resting eyes for 20 seconds when using a laptop or mobile phone, and increasing the size of print on these electronics.
Those who work in environments that require protective eyewear should be sure to wear the goggles or safety glasses as often as possible. It's also essential to keep these implements up to date when they are in need of repair or replacement.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 2,000 workers in the U.S. need medical treatment due to an eye injury every day.
