Sunglasses complete the illusion of wakefulness on the Vertical Bed
November 5, 2009
Would you ever throw on a pair of sunglasses before taking a quick, public power nap? Well that's the general idea behind the Vertical Bed, a new product that comes with a subtle support stand, a neck pillow and dark sunglasses.
The quirky product is designed to allow commuters to catch a few extra minutes of sleep while commuting or "standing" in a public place.
Buyers can set up shop anywhere they feel comfortable - the thin frame of the device can support your body weight and isn't visible from the front.
A pair of opaque, aviator sunglasses comes with the kit. They are intended to make it impossible for others to tell that the Vertical Bed enthusiast is sleeping. The sunglasses probably make naps a little more comfortable, too. The only dead giveaway might be the neck pillow.
Of course, you could just throw on a pair of your own shades and sit down. The American Optometric Association recommends wearing a pair of sunglasses with at least 99 percent UV protection to shield your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun (and, possibly, the judgment of your fellow commuters.)
