Steal Rihanna's eye makeup for a bold look

Did you love Rihanna's look at the American Music Awards? Even if you don't have the cash for a couture gown, you can still snag one aspect of her ensemble – her amazing eye makeup. The fashion plate showed up on the red carpet with vintage-style cat-eyes.

Fans of the singer liked her dramatic eyes so much that The Examiner offered a few tips to help those of us without professional make-up artists perfect the technique.

According to the news source, the easiest way to achieve the smoky look is to start off with a felt-tipped eyeliner pen. Holding the pen, (this requires concentration and a steady hand) work your way from the outside of your eyelid in. Try to create a thick line from one corner of the eye to the other. Do this twice to fill in any spots that you might have missed. Top off eyelids with some sparkly black shadow and two coats of mascara.

Anyone can attempt this look, but keep eye care in mind when choosing your cosmetics. The American Optometric Association recommends that those who wear contacts should exercise some caution when applying makeup. Avoid waterproof and lash-extending mascaras or oil-based powders, as the fibers within the makeup can irritate eyes and cause eye health problems.
