Self-Defense Force Sunglasses can withstand a punch but not a bullet
November 16, 2009
Do you worry about taking off your sunglasses before participating in fisticuffs? Well, ultimate fighters and bar room brawlers can now leave their shades on before, during and after a fight with Self-Defense Force Sunglasses.
The Japanese-made sunglasses claim to be able to withstand a strong punch to the face. According to Chipchick.com, the lenses, which are endorsed by the Japanese Military, can also survive having pieces of iron dropped onto them (500 grams, which is a little over a pound) and can be hit at 106 mph by a .3 inch object (not quite a bullet). With those statistics, these glasses might also be a great idea for the accident prone.
Pacificists can enjoy the benefits of sunglasses too - wearing eyeglasses with at least 99 percent UV protection can help safeguard eyes from problems like Glaucoma, Cataracts and Age-Related Macular degeneration, according to the American Optometric Association (AOA).
Chipchick.com reports that the eyeglasses retail for $317, but good safety eyeglasses don't all come with such a hefty price tag. If your job puts your eye health at risk, be sure to wear a pair of eyeglasses approved for your position. The AOA reports that about 2,000 preventable eye injuries occur each day because workers were not wearing the correct eye protection.
