Seeing the world through blue-colored glasses

Blue-tinted specs could reduce your appetiteCan glasses help you lose weight? A new line of eyeglasses, which feature blue-tinted lenses, claim to do just that.

A blue world-view could help dieters shed pounds by making food look less appealing. The Telegraph reports that theory behind the specs, called Blue Shade Glasses, is that because very few foods in nature are blue the tint serves as an appetite suppressant.

The glasses, which retail for less than $20, could work, according to experts. The frames could "in the short, run result in lower intake of food," Dr. Sue Cunningham of the Texas Health Science Center told kvue.com.

Even if you’re not trying to lose weight, there could be other benefits to the tinted glasses. Medical News Today reports that not only can blue lenses reduce appetite - they could also have an overall calming effect, help those with dyslexia to focus on the page, reduce stress levels and improve willpower.

Before going blue, make sure that your lenses also feature UV protection if you plan on wearing them outside. The American Optometric Association suggests purchasing sunglasses with a 99 percent UV protection rate or higher.
