Pulling off the 'geek chic' look
January 12, 2011
While many people wear eyeglasses or contact lenses in order to see clearly, many are choosing to wear non-prescription glasses to make a fashion statement.
According to the Kansas City Star, fashionistas are taking their look to the next level by adding coordinating eyewear, even if it's not medically necessary.
One hot look that's been seen on fashion runways in New York and London is the "geek chic" style.
This look incorporates heavy-rimmed glasses with trendy clothing such as short shorts and skinny jeans.
"The dark-rimmed, nonprescription glasses started as a trend on the streets in cities last year and became a fun addition to add depth and personality to the casual chic look," boutique owner Emily Baldwin told the newspaper. "It has been popular to pair them with blazers, skinny denim and skirt-blouse combos." Celebrities have embraced the look as well.
Among those who have been spotted wearing these chunky glasses include Justin Timberlake, David Beckham, Sandra Bullock, Scarlett Johansson, Hillary Duff, Alicia Keys and Keira Knightly.
Whether or not you want to wear glasses to look stylish, eye care experts suggest adults under the age of 60 undergo an eye exam at least every two years.
