Park receives protective eyewear donation
November 9, 2010
South Africa's Kruger National Park (KNP) is one of the largest game reserves in Africa, spanning more than 7,300 square miles.
Prescription sunglasses and as well as polarized sunglasses are often on the list of must-pack items on any safari excursion in the park.
Now, the park's 300 rangers will have proper protective eyewear, thanks to a donation of polarized sunglasses from CAT International.
CAT donated the sunglasses to the KNP rangers and members of the environmental crime investigating unit as a sign of support for the good work that they are doing to fight rhino poaching.
All KNP rangers and members of the park's anti poaching unit will receive a pair of the protective sunglasses.
Proper protection from ultraviolet radiation is crucial for maintaining eye health. According to a recent survey done by the American Optometric Association (AOA), 35 percent of adults are unaware of the eye health risks associated with spending too much time in the sun without the proper protection.
A good way to monitor eye health, maintain good vision, and keep up-to-date on the latest in UV protection is by scheduling periodic comprehensive eye exams with an eye doctor.
The AOA recommends adults age 60 and under have a comprehensive eye exam every two years and then annually thereafter.
