Optometrists see a variety of frames, styles
September 13, 2010
Jodie McAllister, a licensed optician, told the Salt Lake Tribune that she is seeing a wide variety of frames styles come into her office. The eye expert says vibrant colors, retro styles and minimalistic glasses are all the rage.
"This is an exciting time to be an optician," McAllister told the news source. "Frames this season have what every woman wants - variety, femininity and individuality." She added that she believes style is important to eyeglasses wearers, as they are likely to put on their lenses every single day.
Current trends see youngsters donning chunky plastic glasses that were popular in the 1980s. Additionally, cat-eye frames from the 1950s, which were once considered to be nerdy, are now seen as geek chic.
Older adults may opt for rimless or semi-rimless glasses, which convey sophistication and minimalism. Those who want to spice up their rimless glasses may choose temples that are decorated with rhinestones, cut-outs or tribal designs.
According to AllAboutVision.com, when choosing new frames, consumers should look for glasses that contrast their face shape, are in scale with their facial features and accentuate eye color.
