Though winter may just be settling in, it's never too early to start shopping for springtime sunglasses. Purchasing a new set of eyewear now will ensure that you're prepared once the snow has finally melted away and it's time to head outside and bask in the sunshine.

Fashionista.com recently discussed some of the upcoming styles that are likely to be popular next season. According to the website, cat eye frames are going to be more subtle, but still very popular.

Of course, the classic aviator lenses will still be popular, but this year with a twist. Shop for frames that add a bit of color or texture to the frame. Others may want to look into over-sized lenses that are rimless and square.

Other styles that may be popular next season include round lenses, like those worn by John Lennon, frames with a little extra bling, and of course the iconic and colorful retro 70s frames.

When shopping for new sunglasses, it's important to make sure the lenses are both fashionable and functional. The American Optometric Association recommends that consumers look for eyewear that blocks out 99 to 100 percent of UV radiation.
