Night driving eyeglasses don't help drivers
December 3, 2009
Many Americans are uncomfortable driving at night. Whether they are visually impaired or simply suffer from poor night vision, the presence of bright headlights, illegible road signs and street lamps that are few and far between can make safely navigating the roads difficult.
There are some versions of night driving glasses with yellow tinted lenses, which manufacturer's say can help drivers see better. Do they work? Westcoaster.ca, an independent news source, reports that unfortunately there seems to be no scientific evidence supporting the claim.
According to the news source, yellow-tinted lenses impair vision and do not offer glare protection.
The best way to ensure that your night vision stays sharp is to visit your eye care professional on a regular basis. The American Optometric Association suggests that people over the age of 60 see an eye doctor at least once a year to check for eye health problems like glaucoma and cataracts, and to make sure that prescription glasses are up to date.
