New technology makes eye care more available

While residents of some areas may have found that eye care facilities are few and far between, those who live in Central Florida have found that new technology is making eye care establishments more abundant.
There are now more places where individuals can visit eye care professionals, according to the Ledger. While people used to have to travel to an optometrists' office, they can now find the eye care specialist in mall department stores and Walmarts, which makes it easier for those in need to receive the care they require.
A new form of technology allows optometrists to assess the prescription level needed by the patient without having access to their medical records. People simply sit down, look into a machine, and the device reads the curvature of their eyes.
According to the news provider, the device then translates the readings to electronic files, negating the need for paperwork.
Once a patient's needs are ascertained, they are given makeshift eyeglasses while they wait two weeks for real frames.
According to the American Optometric Association, individuals should have their eyes examined every other year to ensure there are no developing conditions.
