Asking children to identify stoplight colors is one way to monitor their eye healthChildren's eye health is essential to their learning, and as youngsters are returning to school this month, many parents may want to take extra measures to ensure that their children's vision is in good standing. According to Redding.com, there are some simple ways to keep an eye on kids' eyesight at home.

One way to ensure that kids are able to see properly is by quizzing them on colors, particularly red and green. For instance, when riding in a car, have your son or daughter yell out "red" or "green" when you approach a stoplight.

If you have an elementary school student in your home, try standing on one side of a room and have them count the number of fingers you hold up. If they are unable to do so, there may be an issue with their eye health.

For older students, have them read out words on a television screen, such as the names of TV shows or descriptions of programs. You may also want to have them read out street signs as you are driving, according to the news source.

The American Optometric Association recommends that school-aged children visit the eye doctor for a full exam at least once every two years.
