Large variations in eyewear prices concern consumers
July 21, 2010
Consumers usually shop for what they need at stores that are most convenient to where they are. Finding what you need at local businesses right around the corner from home or work is what some people cite as being the main reason for going there, but that doesn't mean you're getting the best deal, KomoNews.com reports.
Researchers at Consumers' Checkbook magazine recently examined major price differences for identical eyeglasses at different retail locations. The undercover price comparison found significant disparities in cost.
"For instance, on one particular pair of eyeglasses - same prescription, same frames - we found prices ranging from $265 up to $444," Robert Krughoff, president of Consumers' Checkbook, told the news source.
Experts recommend prospective buyers shop around when considering purchasing a new pair of glasses. It doesn't hurt to comparison shop, and often times you may find exactly what you need for a fraction of the cost at other retailers.
Researchers also stress that a higher price does not necessarily mean better quality.
The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends individuals have an annual eye exam to ensure good eye health.
