Lacoste launches 101 aviators, again

December 17, 2009

Lacoste has relaunched classic sunglasses.Lacoste, a label synonymous will classic style (and polo shirts) has reissued its original aviator sunglasses which first became popular in the 1980s.

The Lacoste 101 is an aviator-style pair of sunglasses that is almost exactly the same as the original shades sold by the label, according to Wallpaper.com.

The website notes only two differences between today's 101's and those of yesteryear: the embossed label on the temples has been altered slightly, as has the packaging. The sunglasses now come in a more modern green and white box, which is meant to invoke the spirit of the line's tennis-wear origins.

"We have a global plan to focus on the iconic products of the brand, from the first polo to footwear," Christophe Pillet, the design director for the brand, told the website. "So when we found the 101 sunglasses in the archives, we decided to reproduce them immediately."

Whether your style leans toward iconic or edgy, the American Optometric Association suggests that you wear sunglasses every day. Even on cloudy winter mornings, UV rays from the sun can cause damage to your retina, which can lead to eye health problems like cataracts or glaucoma.
