Johnny Depp wears bold eye makeup in Alice in Wonderland

Cinema buffs are thrilled at the extended trailer for Tim Burton's latest film, Alice in Wonderland which was released today. Along with an atmospheric set and a quirky script, the movie boasts some truly inventive makeup.

Johnny Depp sports bold plum-colored eye makeup as the Mad Hatter, and Helena Bonham Carter (who plays the Red Queen) appears to have over-applied her blue eyeshadow.

Some brands have already released nail polish colors based on the film, with names like Off with Her Red, Mad as a Hatter and Absolutely Alice, according to the website Grazia Daily. It's possible that Alice in Wonderland eyeshadow palates are not that far off!

However, keep your eye health in mind if you're determined to go a little mad with your own eye makeup this winter.

The American Optometric Association recommends that those who wear contact lenses should be especially cautious. Contact lenses should be put on before you apply makeup, and products like lash-extending mascara or waterproof makeup should be avoided.
