Harry Potter's eyeglasses in high demand
November 5, 2009
We're beginning to think that Harry Potter has a few spare pairs of prescription eyeglasses. The round frames, a trade mark of the boy wizard, (and as essential to his identity as that lightening-shaped scar ) seem to be of particular interest to the Potter-loving public.
Last year actor Daniel Radcliffe donated a pair grey oval eyeglasses from his childhood to an event that marked National Holocaust Memorial Day in Liverpool, England. The frames were strikingly similar to the circular specs that Radcliffe dons during filming. The glasses were displayed, along with a hand-written note from Radcliffe, at the entrance to the exhibit.
Other celebs also donated their signature frames to the exhibit, including Yoko Ono, talk show host Jerry Springer and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Just this week another pair of Harry Potter's glasses, those actually worn during filming, was displayed at the Museum of Science in Boston.
The exhibit also features a giant knight chess piece that Ron Weasley (played in the films by Rupert Grint) battled against in the first Harry Potter movie, a copy of the Marauder's Map used in the third installment and other artifacts from the wizarding world, like a Nimbus 2000 broomstick.
