Across the country, the Lions Club looks to make eye care more available to those in need. Since 1917, the organization has tried to improve communities in any way possible. Ever since Helen Keller called upon the club to help those with vision problems in 1925, they have put forth much effort to ensure those who need eye care receive it.
The Greater Brewton Lions Club in Alabama recently celebrated its 75th anniversary, according to BrewtonStandard.com. The club has been very active in its community, from donating eyeglasses to those in need, to funding sight programs both locally and around the world and sending children who suffer from type 1 diabetes to Alabama's Camp Seale Harris.
Those who belong to the club say that they find the experience a rewarding one, as they help less fortunate individuals.
"It's just my heart," member Margaret Westrope told the news provider. "I've seen all of the things that Lions Club does, and the things we do for other people. We really do make an impact on our town."
According to the organization's website, the Lions Club recycles more than 400,000 used prescription eyeglasses each year and gives them to those in need.
