Glasses are a turn on, new survey reveals

October 1, 2009

Man in glassesMaybe you should consider ditching the contacts. A new survey conducted by Essilor of America asked men and women how they perceived people in specs, and the answer was, well, sexy. Forty percent of respondents said they perceived people who wear glasses as smart. Around 39 percent of respondents thought of their spec-sporting peers as sophisticated.

However, according to the survey, the right frames make a big difference. Among those polled, nearly half thought that rimless lenses were the sexiest, while 38 percent of respondents preferred wire-framed glasses. Twenty-two percent of people felt that wearing out of date frames could ruin a person's appearance, and 14 percent thought that loud frames or bold plastic eyeglasses were the least attractive.

This is great news for Americans considering that nearly all of people over 40 will eventually suffer from farsightedness, and nearly 25 percent of people are nearsighted and require prescription eyeglasses.

In fact, according to the Washington Post, due to the rise in popularity of glasses-wearing celebrities like Tina Fey, eyewear may have more, ahem, specsappeal. "I think people fetishize glasses in general," Fey told Women's Health. "You could put glasses on a rotting pumpkin and people would think it was sexy."
