Former American Idol contestant Danny Gokey is giving back by donating his eyeglassesFormer American Idol finalist Danny Gokey, known for his signature thick-rimmed rectangular eyeglasses, is joining forces with a Milwaukee vision care program to help others see more clearly, according to the Journal Sentinel.

The country music star will appear on Wednesday, November 17 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Glendale location of Wisconsin Vision to meet his fans and collect used eyeglasses for those in need.

Gokey, who is a native of Milwaukee, also plans to donate a pair of his old glasses to benefit the Lions Recycle for Sight Program.

"With Thanksgiving and the holidays coming up, we wanted to use my visit to help give back," Gokey said in a statement to the news source. "We're so grateful to the many fans that have been so generous with both their time and hearts to support the community."

Individuals who drop off their used eyeglasses at any Wisconsin Vision location before Gokey's appearance will get a free ticket to meet the singer. Fans without tickets are also encouraged to attend.

Donors who drop off items can also register to win two free tickets to the first annual Danny Gokey Cruise for Sophia's Heart, the non-profit organization Danny founded in honor of his late wife.

Gokey finished in third place during the eighth season of American Idol.
