For adults over 40, the right type of eyewear is importantAs adults age, it is not uncommon for their vision to decrease, making eyeglasses necessary for many people over the age of 40. According to Independent.ie, adults who have trouble seeing have a variety of lenses to choose from to correct their vision.

Those who require two prescriptions to help them see different distances may want to invest in bifocals. These lenses feature two different magnifications, eliminating the need to carry around two pairs of glasses.

Varifocals are similar to bifocals, but do not feature a visible line on the lenses that separates the two prescriptions. Instead of a sharp contrast from one level of magnification to the next, these glasses provide a gradual transition.

For those who find it difficult to focus on small print in newspapers, books or on the computer, reading glasses may be a smart choice. These prescription lenses help people see reading material more clearly.

The American Optometric Association recommends that adults who wear glasses visit their optometrist at least once a year, while those without prescription eyewear go to the eye doctor for a checkup every other year.
