Talk about sports fans! A couple who graduated from Penn State recently paid $9,000 at an auction for a pair of eyeglasses that belonged to famed football coach Joe Paterno.
The eyeglasses were purchased by Michelle and Kevin Coppola, who graduated from the university a few years ago, according to the Altoona Mirror. The eyeglasses are considered a collector's item, and were presented in a shadow box with a photo of the famous football coach.
The eyeglasses were originally up in an online auction, which later turned into a live auction, where Michelle placed her bid.
"We think Joe Paterno is one of the greatest football coaches of all time and part of the iconic image of Penn State," she told the news source. "This just sounded like a good opportunity to have memorabilia of Penn State and something of Joe that is one of a kind."
To ensure that your eyes are in good condition and to watch out for any signs of poor eye health, it is a good idea to have an eye examination every other year up until the age of 40, at which point you should begin visiting your eye care specialist annually, according to the American Optometric Association.
