Eye exams offered for free at recent event

An upcoming in Topeka, Kansas will offer individuals who are unable to afford eye exams a free consultations and screening, The Topeka Capital-Journal reports.
Governor Mark Parkinson proclaimed July 30 Eye on Diabetes Day in Kansas, regarding the fact that an eye exam has been shown to help diagnose diabetes.
A mobile eye clinic will be providing the free eye exams.
The connection between eye health and diabetes is well known, with organizations like the Kansas Optometric Association and the American Diabetes Association both acknowledging that our eyes may help in providing proper diabetes treatments.
According to the American Optometric Association, as many as 24,000 people each year lose their sight because of diabetes. Much of that loss can be averted through early detection and regular eye exams.
Thorough eye exams may not only detect diabetes, but can also help diagnose other vision problems that may not have obvious symptoms. Early detection is key in properly diagnoses and treatment for vision conditions.
