March 5, 2010
As a way to provide eye care to individuals who need it while having some fun with the residents of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the Lions Club will be hosting a pancake breakfast, and all of the proceeds will go towards providing eye care and eyeglasses to less-fortunate individuals.
At the event, hungry participants can get a ton of food for $6, according to the News Enterprise. The breakfast will also provide aid to 34 other community organizations who benefit the area.
The pancake breakfast is a popular draw for the club. According to Jim Zeitz, an Elizabethtown Lions Club member, the same event last year brought in funding for more than 100 pairs of eyeglasses.
"The pancake breakfast is what we do, but it's not why we do this," Zeitz explained to the news provider. "By doing this, we're able to buy eyeglasses for the needy and get those who need eye exams the exams."
According to the American Optometric Association, individuals should make an eye care appointment with an eye care professional every other year to check their eye health and screen their vision.
