Easley Lions Club running to raise money for eye health
May 11, 2010
The Easley Lions Club of Easley, North Carolina, is holding their fifth annual Run for Sight 5K race to help raise money for those suffering from vision problems, reports the Greenville News.
The Lions Club has been dedicating their work to helping those in need of eyeglasses access to eye exams.
Past events have seen as many as 220 people participating to help raise money for those in need.
According to the race's director, Glenn Farrow, people are reaching out to the organization now more than ever before.
In the past, the Lions Club could often pay for eyeglasses and exams for those in need. However, they've now reached a point where they can't accommodate every person, and there is a list of people waiting for their help.
"Maybe [those in need] can't afford some of the things they might have been able to pay for in the past, and they are seeking help from organizations like us," Farrow told the news source.
Last year's race raised $1,500 for the cause.
The Lions Club has been actively helping communities since it was founded in 1917. With over 1.3 million members, it is the largest service club organization in the world. Through their SightFirst program they are helping people all over the world achieve good eye health.
