Christmas toys can be a danger to eye health
November 30, 2009
When shopping for the children on our list, we all want to find unique and popular gifts that any kid would love. However, it's important to keep in mind that not all toys are appropriate for every age, and that some are generally hazardous to children.
Some items might pose a specific danger to the eye health of children. Health News Daily Digest reports that there are approximately 235,300 toy-related injuries a year and that most are sustained to the heads and faces of children under the age of 14.
The news source recommends carefully examining all objects before purchasing them, and avoiding anything with very small parts or sharp edges.
Anyone who has seen A Christmas Story is aware of the dangers of a Red Ryder B.B. Gun, but many gifts that don't seem dangerous could pose a threat. If you decide to outfit your child with paintball guns or a bow and arrow, make sure that they are old enough to understand and execute safe behavior. Also check for the availability of safety eyeglasses before making certain purchases.
