Be sustainable in style with Modo's ECO glasses
November 5, 2009
If you hold on to a pair of eyeglasses long enough, chances are pretty good that they will eventually be back in style. But how about turning an old pair frames into something completely different?
That's exactly what Modo has done with their new line of sunglasses and eyeglasses, called Earth-Conscience Optics (ECO). The line uses recycled stainless steel and repurposed plastic to create new frames in both trendy and classic shapes. The frames, which are also packaged in recycled materials, boast polarized lenses.
More than 120 million Americans use corrective eyewear and approximately 90 million wear sunglasses," said Alessandro Lanaro, CEO of Modo. "This is a huge opportunity to make a difference."
To further reduce the carbon footprint of the line, for each purchase of ECO glasses [move up] Modo will donate a tree to Trees for the Future, a non-profit environmental organization. The line is slated to be affordably priced.
Each pair of ECO glasses comes with a mail-in recycling kit so that consumers can responsibly dispose of their old frames. You could also look up your local chapter of the Lions Club, which frequently collects, repairs and redistributes prescription eyeglasses to those in need.
