Major league baseball players must be in top physical condition in order to successfully participate in their season. The athletes have already begun their vigorous pre-Spring Training physical exams to make sure that the players are in formidable health, according to MLB.com.

Teammates of the Seattle Mariners are noticing that these physicals have become more thorough and now include eye exams. However, some trainers are noticing that the eye tests are finding more eye health problems than they expected them to.

"Most of the time, we have a pretty good idea of what everybody has in terms of any previous injury," Mariners trainer Rick Griffin told the news provider. "But we have found a lot of things that we didn't expect to find, including two players that had torn retinas and needed laser surgery. They were discovered during the eye exam."

According to EyeCareAmerica.org, it's important to get an eye exam if you are experiencing symptoms of floating spots or seeing flashing lights, as they may be signs of a torn retina. If the problem goes untreated, it could potentially lead to blindness.ADNFCR-2615-ID-19624964-ADNFCR
