Avatar audiences asked to recycle 3D eyeglasses
February 24, 2010
Many movie-goers have opted to see Avatar in 3D, which has led some to wonder what happens to the special eyeglasses after the film ends.
Audiences are encouraged to drop their 3D glasses off when exiting the theater so they can be taken to a facility to be cleaned and recycled for the next major blockbuster, according to 3LBMedia.com.
Because Avatar has been a hit at the box office, it has been estimated that if the 42.1 million pairs of 3D glasses used were laid end-to-end, they would stretch more than 3,987 miles.
Other theaters are taking it upon themselves to clean the 3D glasses, and giving them to their next audience.
Although the 3D glasses may be a hit with audiences, it's been reported that certain individuals have been experiencing blurred vision and headaches as a result of the interactive media.
According to WOANews.com, individuals may experience vergence accommodation conflict because they're trying to on things both near and far at the same time, which can cause eye strain.
