AOA recognizes Senator Bond for his stress on eye care for all

It is important for individuals to get their eye health checked every other year to ensure there are no problems, according to the American Optometric Association (AOA). However, some people may not have the financial means or insurance to cover a visit to their eye care professional.
Senator Christopher "Kit" Bond of Missouri was recently recognized by the AOA for his work toward providing access to eye care for his state's residents. Bond has been working to pass legislation that would ensure that school-aged children had access to eye care physicians to ensure they do not fall behind in school due to a vision problem.
Struggling from poor eye health himself, Bond believes that more needs to be done in order to properly treat all of the individuals who need medical attention.
"Unfortunately I know all too well just how important early identification is since a condition that went undiagnosed when I was a child has led to permanent vision loss in my right eye," Bond said. "Through their work with the InfantSEE program, Missouri's optometrists are an important part of the solution to helping children across the state avoid conditions like mine."
