America Ferrera to keep Ugly Betty's famous prescription eyeglasses

Although Ugly Betty may have gotten a makeover in her later episodes, she always kept her signature prescription eyeglasses. Now that the show is wrapping up, actress America Ferrera, who plays the title role, is looking to keep Betty's infamous spectacles.

Ferrera was recently asked if she would keep Betty's signature eyewear when the show ends in April, and she said yes, according to the Associated Press.

"Yeah, I've been thinking about it, there are a few things that I want - I don't want to keep the braces, those can go to the Museum of TV or something," she said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

While Betty's prescription eyeglasses may have been a prop to make her look smarter, they are a necessity for individuals who have poor vision.

Conditions such as myopia and hyperopia, or nearsightedness and farsightedness, can be treated with the help of eyeglasses. These two refractive errors are generally found in school-age children and are easily treated with prescription eyeglasses before the problem progresses, according to the American Optometric Association.
