24-year-old criminal used sunglasses as disguise, BBC reports
December 2, 2009
It seems that though designer sunglasses might boost your image, they will not completely obscure your features. One criminal found that out the hard way, the BBC news reports. The 24-year-old recently appeared in court for his crime.
Matthew Clark, who at the time of the incident was already out on the lamb for another robbery, held up a convenience store at knife point but thought that his sunglasses would conceal his identity.
Police later watched the robbery on security tapes and recognized Clark despite the sunglasses, according to the news source.
The crook claimed to have an alibi but eventually confessed to the crime. However, he claims that the valium that he took before the incident has clouded his memory.
Though sunglasses clearly cannot serve as an accessory to a crime, leaving home without them would be criminal. The American Optometric Association recommends wearing sunglasses with at least 99 percent UV protection to protect your peepers from eye health issues like cataracts, glaucoma and age-related advanced macular degeneration.
